Six years after the flood and Laxey's recovery continues

Problems with insurance now receding, says local MHK

It's now six years since more than 60 properties in Laxey were substantially damaged by floodwater. 

Over 100 millimetres of rain fell on the village during a 24 hour period on 1 October 2019, causing the Laxey river to burst its banks sending a huge volume of fast running water along Glen Road.

Since that day more than £7 million has been spent on flood defences in and around the village, which proved their worth during recent heavy rainfall brought by Storm Amy.
