Department doesn't hold records for parking fines revenue, minister adds

The Department of Infrastructure currently employs six officers acting as parking controllers across the Isle of Man.

Infrastructure Minister, Dr Michelle Haywood has given the information in written response to a Tynwald query from Douglas North MHK, John Wanneburgh.

In the response, the minister says of those six controllers, five are part-time and one is full-time which equates to approximately four full-time equivalents.

These personnel, Dr Haywood adds, cover the entirety of the Island rather than a defined number of 'beats' and busy areas are monitored more frequently than remote locations 'while ensuring fairness and maintaining a visible presence across the Island.'

As part of his question, Mr Wannenburgh also asked what the total revenue has been from parking fines on the Isle of Man in the last four years.

The minister says whilst her department issues fixed penalty notices for parking contraventions, the collection of fines is managed by the General Registry and the DoI does not hold records of parking fines revenue from that period.

It's also been noted that several local authorities have officers appointed as parking controllers but it's understood only a 'small number' are currently active in issuing fixed penalty notices.
