Silt in Peel inner harbour contaminated

Material won't be dumped at sea

The Department of Infrastructure has confirmed silt in the inner harbour at Peel is contaminated, and it won't be dumped at sea.

Infrastructure officials say they're looking at alternative solutions for disposal of the material.

Possible options include re-using it in concrete, or in the worst case scenario, putting it into a land-based site.

Silt in the outer harbour, which is mostly sand-based, has been deemed safe and will be dredged in the next month.
