The Island's tobacco strategy co-ordinator says new photographic warnings on cigarette packets form just part of raft of initiatives to help people stop smoking.
The stark, written warnings on tobacco products are being joined by graphic pictures of rotting teeth, diseased lungs and open heart surgery.
Anita Imberger says it's essential to change the warnings on cigarette packets on a regular basis.
She says picture warnings on their own won't necessarily convince people to stop, but is confident they will be effective in conjunction with other strategies (audio file attached):
