Could an RNLI servicing centre be created in the north?

The managing director of Ramsey Shipping Services says a government-owned facility in the north of the Island could be a gold mine in commercial terms.

Kuba Szymanski says Ramsey shipyard, a government-owned facility, could be the place dozens of RNLI vessels come to be serviced.

But (and its an expensive 'but')...it would require a sizeable sum invested in a key piece of infrastructure; the slipway.

Manx Radio's John Moss has been to speak with Mr Szymanski and for a tour of the shipyard site:

Meanwhile, Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper says government should actively consider investment in Ramsey shipyard.

Mr Hooper, who was a political member for the Department of Infrastructure until resigning from the post in January, says a deal of discussion went on about boosting the shipyard's facilities.

Such investment, he feels, could well bring dividends:

Manx Radio has invited the Department of Infrastructure to comment.
