Local authorities should run parking, says minister
Parking should be in the hands of local authorities.
So says the Island’s Infrastructure Minister.
Phil Gawne last month claimed Shaw's Brow car park in Douglas had cost the taxpayer more than £1 million.
He said that was due to a ‘poorly-drafted’ contract with no break clauses between the former local government department - now incorporated into his department - and Douglas Borough Council.
Mr Gawne says it's a problem which has frustrated him from the moment he inherited it:
