Setback for Castletown Golf Links Hotel plans

Planning officer recommends refusal

Redevelopment plans for the Castletown Golf Links Hotel have been recommended for refusal by the planning authority.

Among its reasons, it says the redevelopment would be detrimental to wildlife in the area and cause 'unacceptable' levels of light and noise pollution.

The issue was brought up in the House of Keys last week by Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Tim Glover, describing it as 'possibly the biggest blot on the landscape in the south of the Island'.

The authority says the new development would have 'unacceptable adverse impact on the landscape'.

It adds - the applicant, Fort Island Developments LTD, hasn't provided sufficient evidence on how foul water from the site would be disposed of.

The planning committee is due to meet on Monday (15 November), when a final decision to approve or reject the proposals will be made.
