Tynwald backs call for fresh look at the topic
Tynwald has approved a motion from Onchan MHK Julie Edge to form a new Select Committee on whistleblowing.
In calling for the committee, she argued it will provide "critical scrutiny" of how government policies are being implemented and how whistleblowers are treated.
It comes just days after the government released a new policy that "strongly discourages" public servants from taking their concerns to the media or politicians before exhausting internal channels.
The motion was passed as amended by the Chief Minister, Alfred Cannan, who called for five members to be on the committee, rather than three.
As a result, a Select Committee has been set up comprising of the following members:
- Lord Bishop Tricia Hillas
- Onchan MHK Julie Edge
- Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Tim Glover
- Douglas Central MHK Ann Corlett
- MLC Gary Clueit
