Section of Quarterbridge Road to close for tree works

A section of Quarterbridge Road in Douglas will be closed this weekend to allow a dead roadside tree to be felled.

The route will be shut between 8am and 6pm on Sunday (15 March) from its junction with Selbourne Drive and Alexander Drive, however the DOI says, if works go to plan, the road could reopen by mid-afternoon.

Diversions will be in place via Albany Road.

The Department of Infrastructure says the work is not being undertaken by Highway Services and is to facilitate the safe felling of a dead roadside tree. 

Instead, it says the work is being undertaken by a contractor for the householder who owns the land. 

It adds: "Dead trees tend to become unstable with time and are in danger of falling. By felling the tree it no longer presents and issue to the public." 

"The closure has been authorised for a Sunday to avoid conflict with commercial and commuter traffic."
