Section of Mountain Road to shut for pre-TT works

Bungalow to Creg Ny Baa will be closed 24/7 from 31 March until 26 April

A section of the Mountain Road is to shut later this month for maintenance work ahead of this year's TT races.

The Department of Infrastructure will be carrying out surface repairs, line painting, installing signage and more.

BUNGALOW TO CREG NY BAA

Construction work on the road between the Bungalow and Creg Ny Baa is expected to start on Monday 31 March and is anticipated to take four weeks to complete.

This will mean that section of road will be shut 24/7, from Monday 31 March until Saturday 26 April, including over the Easter period.

There is also a contingency in place to extend the closure period until to Friday 2 May 'if circumstances dictate'.

The DOI says, in addition to surfacing works, it is intended to excavate the road surface to replace collapsed stone culverts below the carriageway between Keppel Gate and Kate’s Cottage.

These culverts currently do not operate at capacity, which contributes to surface water on the road at Kate’s Cottage and which increases the risk of ice causing hazardous winter driving conditions.

RAMSEY TO BUNGALOW

Meanwhile, the northern end of the road - from Ramsey to the Bungalow - will also close to all traffic from Monday 14 April to Thursday 17 April but will reopen for the Easter Bank Holiday.

This will also be 24/7.

There is provision to re-close from Tuesday 22 April until Saturday 25 April if necessary.

The Snaefell Mountain Railway will operate as normal, and the Snaefell Summit Café and Victory Café will be accessible from Sulby via the Tholt Y Will Road at all times.

The Creg Ny Baa Hotel will be accessible from Douglas via Hillberry and Laxey via the Creg Ny Baa Back Road at all times.

All parking areas will be available.
