Election will follow swearing-in of new MHKs

The Isle of Man’s new Members of the House of Keys will be sworn-in tomorrow (29 September).

For 15 of them it will be their first time as MHKs; the other nine have previous political experience.

And it’s from that pool that, perhaps, will emerge the new Speaker of the House of Keys.

After 10 years in the role Juan Watterson was promoted to Tynwald President meaning the seat is now vacant.

John Moss has been looking at how the personality of the Speaker can influence proceedings in the house:

Deputy Speaker of the House of Keys Ann Corlett lost her seat in last week’s General Election.

The swearing-in process will start at 11.30am. 

The first sitting of the House of Keys, to elect the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, will start at 2.30pm.
