Dr Wilson secured a sizeable majority of the total vote
Long-time Onchan resident Scott Wilson has secured a seat on the board of Onchan Commissioners after winning the local authority’s by-election.
He won 63 percent of the vote, amounting to 447 ballots.
A total of 707 votes were cast - 189 in favour of Nigel Dobson and 71 for Oliver Lockwood.
The by-election was triggered by the resignation of Fenella Logan, who stepped down in August, citing a lack of ‘time and energy’ to dedicate to the position.
Dr Wilson’s campaign has focussed on proposing a community-focused platform that prioritises safety, environmental sustainability, and local economic support.
He has lived and worked in Onchan for many years and advocates for what he calls “positive change and progress” within the local community.
Dr Wilson’s key priorities include enhancing neighbourhood safety through increased community policing and improved street lighting, alongside the creation of more pedestrian-friendly crossings.
He pledges support for environmental initiatives, such as expanding recycling access and promoting green spaces, and plans to back local businesses with job creation programmes and community market opportunities.
The full board is up for re-election in April, meaning he’ll only occupy his seat for five months. However, Dr Wilson says he hopes to focus on expanding services and providing vocational training opportunities for young people.
He proposes developments for Onchan Park including a dedicated dog park to encourage responsible pet ownership.
