Schools reopening strategy described by education minister

Enhanced cleaning of schools and physical distancing have been outlined by the education minister as key areas being looked at by the department.

Dr Alex Allinson discussed the strategy at the latest government media briefing, looking at measures related to the coronavirus pandemic and Island schools.

There have been no new cases of Covid-19 since Saturday (9 May). The total number of cases stands at 330, with 37 of those active.

Dr Allinson outlined how the reopening of facilities might take place, with no date in mind at this time:

Meanwhile, the science of reopening Island schools has been outlined by the Director of Public Health Dr Henrietta Ewart.

Dr Ewart drew on evidence from previous pandemics, including SARS and influenza, to explain how schools could reopen in the future.
