Announcement due on childcare for 'critical workers'

Schools will remain closed today to stop spread of Covid-19,  particularly among the Island's young people. 

Ministers took the decision on over the weekend, which saw the highest increase in coronavirus cases detected in a 24 hour snapshot here.

81 new cases were reported on Sunday, meaning there are 315 active cases in total, with six people being treated in hospital. 

It's understood a follow up announcement is due today for on childcare for 'critical' workers.

David Ashford has sought to reassure young people struggling to understand the current situation.

At a recent media briefing the Health Minister addressed the Island's children directly:

More than 25,000 Covid vaccines have now been delivered on the Isle of Man.

Around 60 per cent of that figure constitutes first doses.

Starting today, around 1,000 vaccines will be administered, five days a week.

By Wednesday, everybody over 70 should have received a letter inviting them to register for a Covid-19 vaccination.
