School makes fresh bid for prestigious award

 

An Island high school is hoping it can impress judges that little bit more as it again bids to win a prestigious sustainability award.

QEII has been nominated in the European Global High School Prize category at the Zayed Energy Awards for the second year running.

A delegation from the school - Headteacher Sue Moore, Head of Life Skills Lesley Sleight and student Alex Eaton - travel to Abu Dhabi on Saturday, ahead of Monday's ceremony.

Up for grabs is the first prize of US$100,000, for which QEII is vying with a Romanian school.

If QEII wins the money will be spent on completing a project to combine its biomass boiler with a wind turbine.

Lesley Sleight says the judges will be considering much more than that, though:
