One month into new season
King scallop catches are 'average' but in line with expectations a month into the new season.
That's the evaluation of the Fish Producers' Association.
The industry is currently in a stock development phase and catches have included a significant number of juvenile scallops.
These are separated from the adult shellfish and put back into the water.
Chief executive David Beard says the high prevalence of juvenile scallops bodes well for the future but, in the meantime, market prices remain subdued:
