More and more relying on charity support, says church leader
The Salvation Army says it received 1,842 referrals for support on the Isle of Man over the Christmas period.
The charity says the consistently high prices for everyday items, coupled with increases in rents and energy costs, means more and more people on the Island are relying on support from charities to help them get through daily life.
Captain Rachael Niewoudt, church leader for the Salvation Army in the Isle of Man, says many low income households are living hand to mouth, pay cheque to pay cheque.
The church and community centre located in the Isle of Man Business Park worked with social workers, schools and health professionals to support people and families already struggling to put food on the table, heat their homes and pay their bills.
She says in the challenging times everyone is facing they were overwhelmed with the generosity and compassion shown by our Island community.
