Roads close in face of flooding

Roads around the Island are closed as coastal areas brace themselves for more flooding in high tides.

The tides were due to reach their highest point at 1.50pm, with the East side of the Island expected to bear the brunt of any floods.

Mill Road and West Quay in Peel are shut, as is Leigh Terrace in Douglas, Mooragh Promenade between Old River Road and Vollan Crescent, and Victoria Road and Hope Street in Castletown.

Police say water is lapping over North Quay near the British pub, and waves are breaking over the Bottleneck car park in Douglas and the boat park in Port St Mary.

Meanwhile, officers say some motorists have been ignoring road closed signs on Douglas promenade – which are in place for public safety.
