Rising demand for help from Island food bank

 

As the Christmas spending frenzy reaches a peak this weekend, an Island charity is offering help to those without the money to buy life's essentials.

The Isle of Man Food Bank is busy distributing three day food parcels to people facing crisis - and it's reporting a steady rise in the level of need.

Large quantities of food are donated to the bank, there have been two major collections at Tesco this year, while Island churches and faith organisations regularly top-up food stocks.

Clients are referred to the Food Bank - which has been operating since October 2013 - and their needs assessed.

Projects manager Joanna Chapman says there's a growing need for basics among those with least in our society:
