Auxiliary vessel stops off near Douglas
The Island has a visitor from the Royal Navy today.
The RFA Argus, an auxiliary vessel, has been anchored just outside Douglas Bay since this morning.
The Primary Casualty Receiving Ship has a fully equipped 100-bed medical facility on board, and her last major deployment was to Sierra Leone in 2014, where her 350 personnel helped the country fight ebola.
She’s not, however, designated as a hospital ship under the Geneva Convention and so doesn’t display the International Red Cross symbol.
