Reservoirs 93% full after damp July

Complete 180 from drastic dry weather in July 2022

With an unusually wet July drawing to a conclusion the Island's water supplies look to be in good shape.

The four main reservoirs at Sulby, West Baldwin, Clypse and Kerrowdhoo averaged 93 per cent as of the 24th of July.

But, it was a different story at this time last year.

At the start of August 2022 a hosepipe ban was in place and after a long spell of warm, dry weather Manx Utilities was considering more drastic actions including a measure called modification to compensation flows.

 It's a process where water is directed from the Island's rivers, to supplement supplies, which can, if not handled carefully, affect the ecology and health of the waterways.

Levels at the Island's largest reservoirs at Sulby and West Baldwin had fallen to 68 and 71 per cent full respectively.

So this year we may be starved of summer sun, but there's a good supply of the wet stuff to keep the plants happy.
