This year's theme is 'Our Biosphere'

UCM's Research Festival kicks off at the Villa Marina today (Thursday 16 October).

This year it's in partnership with Biosphere Isle of Man, and hopes to showcase the research taking place on the Isle of Man.

Dr Jasbeer Musthafa Mamalipurath is a media studies lecturer at Queen's University in Belfast.

He's giving one of the talks tomorrow (Friday 17 October) called 'Can Small Islands Resist the Big Lies?' and says the Island is in a unique position when it comes to tackling misinformation:

The festival gets underway at the Villa Marina from 6pm tonight where it'll be opened by Chief Minister, Alfred Cannan before the keynote speech 'Living in a laboratory - co-creating the future of Isle of Man Biosphere'.

Then tomorrow there'll be a full day of talks.

You can find a full itinerary and book tickets here.
