Prison numbers at Jurby facility soar
Government will consider whether it needs to repatriate prisoners who are not from the Isle of Man back to the UK.
However the Department of Home Affairs has warned that the prison population there is already under ‘severe strain’.
In Tynwald this week it was confirmed that the facility in Jurby has seen a 42 percent increase in its population in less than a year and is only 13 spaces away from maximum capacity.
Minister Jane Poole-Wilson says the department will work ‘proactively’ with the prison governor to ensure it can operate within its capacity:
