Remand for TT visitor accused of maliciously administering poison

Barrow-in-Furness man also charged with making threats to kill

A Barrow-in-Furness man who allegedly threatened to kill German TT visitors because of their nationality has been remanded at the Isle of Man Prison.

Paul Samuels, from Mikasa Street, is also accused of maliciously administering poison on their belongings after an incident at a campsite.

The 44-year-old appeared at Douglas Courthouse yesterday (15 June).

He’s been charged with damaging their property – including a gazebo, a German flag, a camping chair and a van – on 8 June at St John’s Football Club.

The court was told he allegedly targeted their belongings with a flammable liquid which is believed to be lighter fluid.

Committal proceedings, where the case is elevated to the Court of General Gaol Delivery, will take place on 10 August.

There was no application for bail and he will remain in custody until his next court appearance on 13 July.

Update: Following a trial at Douglas Courthouse, which started on 19 February, Mr Samuels was found guilty of destroying or damaging property.

A jury found him not guilty of making threats to kill or administering a noxious substance.

He received a fine and must pay prosecution costs.
