CURA concerned speech content falls below 40% following launch of Manx Radio Gold
The body that regulates broadcasting on the Isle of Man is investigating following concerns Manx Radio may not be meeting its licence obligations regarding speech content.
The Communications and Utilities Regulatory Authority says this issue has arisen following the launch of Manx Radio Gold in 2024.
The regulator previously ruled Gold did not require a separate licence to Manx Radio, and therefore treats its programming as part of Manx Radio's overall output.
In a notice published on its website, CURA says its analysis has caused concern that speech content falls before the required 40 percent when Gold is factored in.
CURA says it has invited the station to suggest solutions, but no progress has been made and the two parties are now at an impasse.
The regulator confirmed the matter has been ongoing for some time, and has now referred it to its compliance and enforcement section for further formal investigation, adding that is has little choice but to treat it as a potential licence compliance issue.
The authority will be seeking evidence from relevant parties, including but not limited to Manx Radio, before determining whether any regulatory directions or remedies are required should a breach be found.
Radio Manx Limited has been contacted for comment.
