
A £5.5 million scheme to improve facilities ar Poortown Quarry was officially opened by the Chief Minister at lunchtime.
The quarry is set to provide the Isle of Man with roadstone for next 80 years!
A new administration block and plant have been built and new crushers and screening installed, in a project lasting two years.
Poortown is the only source of rock in the Island with skid resistance properties, a valuable commodity as importing it is very expensive.
Declaring the new facilities open Tony Brown described the quarry as a vital resource (audio file attached):
