When the Isle of Man stopped to remember the fallen from past wars earlier today, the events of the present day weren't far from some people's minds.
With the intense fighting in Afghanistan continuing to claim lives, the presence of young Manx people in the armed forces meant for some Armistice Day was a recognition of an ongoing conflict.
One of those was Senior Aircraftsman Orry Drinkwater, a native of Port Erin, who has served in Iraq and Afghanistan with the RAF.
He says in a warzone there isn't time to think about anything other than the job in hand:
