Bring banks have bumper week

Onchan Commissioners says they’re broken recycling records this year – with more than 17,000 kilogrammes collected in a single week in May.

At 7pm on Monday, the board will meet at the local authority offices in Hawthorn Villa on Main Road in Onchan.

And they’ll discuss a report that shows since withdrawing from kersbside recycling collections four years ago, people have brought 550 tonnes of glass, paper, cans and plastic to bring banks.

The report estimates it’s saved Onchan ratepayers £31,000 in fees at the Energy to Waste Plant in Braddan.

And figures show the second week in May was its busiest week ever for recycling collections – with almost 18 tonnes dropped off in just seven days.
