Increased costs to blame for hike
Villagers in Ballaugh will see their rates go up by five pence from April, the first increase in four years.
Parish commissioners have set a new rate of 120 pence in the pound due to a 'general increase in costs', as well as other factors such as increased charges at the Northern Civic Amenity site.
The price of upgrading and maintaining utilities were also to blame for the first rise in the village since 2016.
Rates are taxes based on the rental value of your property in 1969, which are levied by local authorities and Manx Utilities to pay for local services.
