Rates frozen in Braddan for 2012-2013

Braddan is another local authority which won't be putting up rates this year.

The board, which met earlier this week, says it expects to have built up reserves of around £600,000 by the end of the financial year.

As a result, rates will remain at 227p in the pound and a number of projects will get the green light.

They include a new website and continuing kerbside recycling collections.

The commissioners also agreed to put aside £200,000 to defend a legal case brought by former clerk Charles Lewin for breach of contract and loss of pension.

The board says the case could cost Braddan ratepayers £1.3 million.

Rates in Douglas and Castletown will also stay at current levels for the forthcoming municipal year.
