Extreme conditions likely to hit the Island this evening
A rare red weather warning for coastal overtopping has been issued by Ronaldsway Met Office.
It's an upgrade of the previous amber warning issued yesterday (25 October), and will come into force at 10pm tonight (26 October).
Forecasters say gale or severe gale force south-southwest wind, coupled with high spring tides, will lead to significant overtopping of waves and debris onto coastal roads and promenades around high tide at 11.30pm.
The areas most likely to be affected are Douglas promenade, Ramsey promenade, Laxey promenade, Shore Road in Rushen and Castletown promenade.
Red warnings denote that extreme conditions are likely, with a risk to life.
The message is to 'take action' as we can expect widespread damage, travel disruption and interruption to power and communication.
