Racism answer 'inadequate', says Bishop

Government attitudes to race relations in the Isle of Man have come in for criticism from the Bishop.

Bishop Robert Paterson asked a question in Tynwald last month about what research the Department of Home Affairs had undertaken into attitudes on the Isle of Man and how it compared to neighbouring nations.

In a written reply, Minister for Home Affairs Adrian Earnshaw asserted the Isle of Man was a 'tolerant and inclusive society' and the vast majority of the population does not express racist tendencies, adding the Isle of Man Government undertook no routine monitoring.

The Bishop said the response was inadequate and the issue needed to be addressed more fully.

He added he was in no doubt there was a problem.
