Electoral Commission carry out first of a set of public meetings

The Isle of Man's political constituency boundaries are up for discussion, after question marks have been placed over two of them.

At a public gathering last night, the Electoral Commission revealed Ramsey as well as Glenfaba & Peel are in breach of their 'maximum' voter allowance.

Constituency boundaries are based on population figures, but the northern-most area is more than three percent in excess, according to the latest census data.

Borders are based on a calculation which looks at the average population per constituency, and gives up to 15-percent leeway.

Glenfaba & Peel's eligible voter population sits at 17-percent, whilst Ramsey's figure is 18.3-percent.

The Commission has renewed calls for the public to complete a survey looking into the way general elections are carried out and how they can be more accessible.
