Public help required to hit 5 year restoration target

A major restoration project on Queen's Pier in Ramsey has moved a step closer to reality, with the arrival of new materials.

Dozens of planks, made of timber from the Ekki tree, have traveled thousands of miles from West Africa to Ramsey Harbour via Belgium and the Netherlands.

They will be used to furnish the entire length of the half-mile pier.

Volunteers still believe the Pier could be finished and reopened within five years, at a cost of up to £2 million.

But project manager Stuart MacKenzie says it cannot continue without the public's help.
