Attributed, in part, to conservation measures introduced in recent years
The size and quality of queen scallop landings has prompted the Island's Scallop Management Board to raise the total allowable catch for vessels currently fishing in Manx waters.
Just seven weeks into the season boats had caught more than 92 percent of the 726-tonne limit.
As a result the board has deferred to the higher catch limit of 1,140 tonnes.
Dr David Beard says the extraordinary catch quota is a direct dividend from conservation measures introduced in recent years:
Smile of Mann programme to start in primary schools next year
Loganair passengers yet to be reunited with bags left in Manchester on Sunday
Kirk Michael man taking on 31 marathons in 31 days in memory of friend
Government grant partially funded fishing vessel later used for smuggling
