49-year-old denies assault ABH charge
A Pulrose man has appeared in court accused of strangling his girlfriend during an argument and rendering her unconscious.
Forty-nine-year-old Nicholas John Trigg, of Alder Road, pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm which allegedly took place on 27 February.
Prosecution advocate Barry Swain told the hearing Mr Trigg had been drinking at a friend's house but returned to his partner's home on Hillside Avenue in Douglas to eat.
The hearing was told they'd begun arguing, and a witness called police as the incident escalated.
When officers arrived, Mr Trigg's girlfriend was found unconscious and told police she couldn't remember anything between being grabbed by the throat and waking up to see an ambulance.
Magistrates declined jurisdiction in the case, saying it would have to be committed to the Court of General Gaol Delivery.
They granted bail until he appears again on 5 May, imposing conditions he reports to police each day, doesn't contact witnesses and doesn't enter Hillside Avenue or Hillside Terrace.
*UPDATE:
At Douglas Courthouse, on 14 April, the charge against Mr Trigg was dropped after the prosecution advocate confirmed the case had been reviewed and no evidence would be offered.
The charge was marked as discharged by magistrates who awarded defence costs of £1,123.
