Public urged to be responsible around marine animals

Reports of boats and jet skis not following laws

People are being urged to be responsible around marine animals in Manx waters.

Manx Whale and Dolphin Watch, and police, have made the plea after reports of jet skis and boats not following codes of conduct.

It's an offence under the Wildlife Act to disturb cetaceans intentionally or recklessly.

The Manx Whale and Dolphin Watch has re-published a guide on how to behave around marine life when in a powered craft.

The advice includes trying not to approach an animal from directly in front or behind and not getting closer than 100 metres unless the creature comes to you.

People should only remain there for 15 minutes, unless the animal chooses to stay, and keep a steady course and low speed to let it know you're there.
