Public Health issue warning over chickenpox

The disease is common and usually clears within five days

Public Health Isle of Man has issued a warning that chickenpox is currently circulating across the Island.

Despite being a common and mild disease, the virus mostly affects children.

Typical symptoms include itchy, spotty rashes which become small spots, blister and then scab over.

Other symptoms include a high temperature, aches and pains and a loss of appetite.

They're urging anyone who gets it to stay away from school, nursery or work until the spots have crusted over.

Five days is usually the expected time for chickenpox to clear.

Pregnant women who haven't had chickenpox but believe they may have come into close contact with it, is advised to speak with your local GP.
