Public dog licence reminder issued

Owners required to pay £20

A reminder for all dog owners to licence their pets has been issued by government officials.

Starting from April 1 this year, owners will be required to pay £20 for a licence, which can be obtained from Isle of Man Post Office counters.

For dogs already neutered, micro-chipped, or owned by over 60's the fee is £10, whilst assistance and rescue dogs do not need licences.

Tynwald is considering legislation for the introduction of micro-chipping under the Dogs Amendment Bill which would abolish the need for licensing.

However a DEFA spokesman has made clear that until the legislation receives consent, it's a legal requirement for dogs to be licensed.
