The Department of Local Government and the Environment is doing all it can to make sure new developments in the Isle of Man are protected from flooding.
Minister John Shimmin, who faced questions on the subject in the House of Keys earlier this week, says events such as the recent floods in Cumbria are still rare, but are likely to become more common in the future, due to climate change.
He says, as a result, drainage requirements placed on builders are becoming stricter:
