Prospect Terrace incident - police issue statement

Situation with 'wanted' man escalates

Police say an officer has been headbutted and spat on today, whilst trying to restrain a man and 'retrieve items' in his possession.

The incident took place on Prospect Terrace in Douglas, and involved a 'wanted' individual and plain-clothes officers.

They say the man in question was seen attempting to swallow a number of items, which led to 'grave concerns' he could die if those items included any drugs.

The police are apologising to any members of the public who were inconvenienced or alarmed, and wish to thank the people who stopped to help.
