A jury has been told the 'rule book was ripped up and thrown out of the window' in the 2010 Douglas East by-election.
The prosecution's closing address at Douglas Courthouse today accused 25-year-old Kerry Rothwell of Onchan and 40-year-old Gail Corrin of Douglas of targeting people to dishonestly obtain proxy votes.
Cairns Nelson QC said the by-election represented a 'statistical blip' in the history of voting in the Isle of Man.
The court heard 253 proxy applications were made in the by-election, compared to 39 in Douglas East during the 2006 Isle of Man general election.
One-hundered-and-forty-one of the applications were rejected.
The trial continues.
