Consultation on fertilisation and embryology legislation now open
Feedback is being sought on proposals for a complete overhaul of Manx legislation on rights for same sex parents.
A public consultation has opened on Legislative Council member Tanya August-Hanson's bill, which would bring Manx laws in line with UK legislation, and give same sex parents the same rights as heterosexual couples.
The proposals would also update the legal definitions of 'mother' and 'father', allow same sex couples access to modern fertilisation and embryology methods and enable same sex couples to register births.
Ms August-Hanson says the changes are long overdue:
You have until 29 September to respond to the consultation. Ms August-Hanson intends to introduce her bill in the first quarter of 2024.
