Procurement process for 'Manx Care Record' begins

The procurement process for establishing a single-source digital patient record system has begun.

But government says it doesn’t know yet how much it could cost.

The ‘Manx Care Record’ would see information from up to 16 systems - from hospitals, GPs, community services, mental health and social care - contained in one place.

The Department of Health and Social Care is now inviting suppliers to demonstrate how they would deliver it.

Dr Gregor Peden, Manx Care’s Chief Clinical Information Officer, said: “This is far more than a technology programme — it is a strategic clinical investment that will support safer, more efficient care.

“By enabling a shared view of patient information across services we can equip clinicians and care professionals with the insights to make better-informed decisions, reduce duplication and deliver more seamless, person-centred care.”

A full business case is expected be brought forward in early 2027; if approved it would be implemented through a phased roll-out the following year.

More than £500,000 has been allocated to the project so far.

In 2024 the then Chief Executive Teresa Cope said work to introduce digital care records for patients from the Isle of Man was 'crucial'.
