Probation for woman who kicked police sergeant

38-year-old became 'extremely aggressive' in custody suite

A former Manx resident who kicked a police sergeant after becoming ‘volatile and violent’ in custody has been ordered to work with the probation service.

Jade Helena Ashton, formally of Hillside Avenue in Douglas, lashed out at the officer at Police Headquarters after being arrested on 26 April.

During sentencing at Douglas Courthouse the prosecutor told the court she’d become ‘extremely aggressive’ after being booked into the custody suite.

Five days earlier the 38-year-old, who now lives in Southampton, had also been arrested for damaging a window at The Front Porch in Douglas after being removed from the venue for hitting someone.

Ashton’s advocate described the offences as ‘drunken acts committed spontaneously’ adding that for both ‘intoxication is a common denominator’.

Sentencing her to a 12-month Probation Order, which will be overseen in the United Kingdom, Magistrates told her: “Drink seems to be a common factor – a problem.”

They also ordered her to pay £100 in compensation to the police sergeant and prosecution costs of £125.
