Probation for Douglas man who punched stranger in car park

20-year-old also pleaded guilty to drug possession

A Douglas man who punched a stranger in a car park has been ordered to work with the probation service.

Alex Egan, of Strang Close, approached the man in Shaw’s Brow just before 1.30am on 7 July along with four other people.

When the group’s request for a lift was declined, the 20-year-old became aggressive and grabbed the man by the throat, pushing him into a concrete post and punching him in the face.

The man suffered a broken tooth and a swollen eye; Egan handed himself in to police the next day.

During sentencing at Douglas Courthouse he also pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine and cannabis, at 1886, on 14 September this year.

The court heard police attended the bar at 1.40am after reports that someone was dealing drugs within the premises.

He was found to have 1.4g of cannabis - worth £28 - and 0.1g of cocaine worth £10.

His advocate told the court Egan co-operated with police and that the drugs were for his own personal use.

Ordering Egan to work with the probation service for six months, and to pay compensation and prosecution costs, Magistrates told him: "You need to learn a lesson from both of these incidents."
