Assaulted female prison officers
An 18-year-old prisoner tried to escape from jail during a visit to Noble’s Hospital, a court’s heard.
Kyle Reece Wright, whose address was given as the Isle of Man Prison, admitted four charges when he appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas courthouse.
He pleaded guilty to two assaults on female prison officers, one on a member of the public and one of attempting to escape lawful custody.
The court heard he made a bid for freedom during a visit to accident and emergency at Noble’s Hospital on 29 April.
Prosecution advocate James Robinson said Wright asked to use the toilet at 7pm but refused to be handcuffed again.
He then tried to make a getaway by running towards the main hospital entrance.
Two officers escorting him tackled him and a passerby tried to help – only for Wright to bite the two guards and kick the civilian in the head.
There was no application for bail and Wright was remanded in custody to be sentenced on 25 June.
