A single mother from the Isle of Man has been jailed for nine months for abducting her seven-year-old son.
The 46-year-old woman, who has not been named to protect the child’s identity, took him to Canada last summer to stop him being taken into care.
A jury heard she bought a house there and left a false trail of emails to try and hide from the authorities.
She admitted abduction but pleaded the rarely used defence of 'necessity', claiming the boy was in danger of being sexually abused by his father.
That allegation was never proved.
