Primary school receives a makeover

Main school building to be re-cladded

Plans have been unveiled for a major makeover of a Douglas primary school.

The Department of Education and Children says St Mary's Roman Catholic School, which currently has 275 pupils on its roll, needs the work to address 'inadequate' facilities.

Among the proposals are the construction of two brand new indoor classrooms, to replace dated outdoor mobile units which have 'reached the end of their working life'.

Disabled access will be improved, and the hall expanded.

The main school building will also be fully re-cladded in 'thermally efficient' terracotta material - which designers claim will make the site more attractive.

Existing playground space will be retained, and the staff car park will be slightly enlarged.

Parents are reassured the pupils' day-to-day education will not be disrupted by the works.
