Tynwald elected its new president yesterday (Tuesday), with Clare Christian MLC becoming the first woman to take up the position.
She secured 20 votes from members in a secret ballot, with speaker of the House of Keys Steve Rodan, the only other candidate, getting twelve votes.
Mrs Christian began her five-year term immediately, presiding over yesterday's proceedings in the chamber.
